  This is a great group of people earnestly desiring to know Christ and share their lives together. They have Solid youth programs from high school to primary. The Worship is Christ centered and the teaching apostolic and biblical. The pastor believes in teaching the scriptures and not sermonizing. Their model of ministry is refreshing. I really liked this church. It's not a huge church but neither is it a small church. From my perspective, they are trying to keep "the main thing the main thing"

  If you are looking for a church to call home in the Salem Area, please put Calvary Chapel on your list. This is what you can expect:
  
  1) Calvary Chapel Salem is a very relaxed, family-focused environment. Some of the Sunday services are held in a local park, with a BBQ potluck following the service.
  
  2) Even though the Pastors may wear shorts and sandals, they take their main jobs of teaching the Bible--"Chapter by Chapter, Verse by Verse"--VERY SERIOUSLY. If you want to hear sermons entitled, "How We Can All Learn to Visualize World Peace", may I politely suggest that you look elsewhere. BTW,There are a lot of other GREAT churches in Salem that also teach the Bible, so you may have to look long and hard for a church that encourages "navel gazing".
  
  3) Calvary Chapel doesn't have a dress code; you will attract attention either if you wear business attire, or if you wear short-shorts, high heals, and a tube top (especially if you are a man).
  
  4) Calvary Chapel doesn't have membership lists, because, as Christians, our membership is in the Body of Christ. As a result, the church doesn't have a "New Members Class". So, if you decide to call Calvary Chapel Salem your new church home, you can rest easy knowing that you won't be asked to introduce yourself in front of the group, or to publicly admit all of your worst sins. On the other hand, you may get invited out to lunch or to have a grande non-fat vanilla latte with someone after church, but trust me, there are no free coffee guarantees!
  
  5) The church has a great Sunday School, Jr. and High School programs for your kids, with some of the most talented teachers and leaders anywhere in Salem. When your 13-year-old would rather miss a Jack N Jack concert than miss Room 3 on Tuesday evenings, then those leaders MUST be doing something right (thank you Monica, Bob, Esther, Jeremy and Joe)! Pastor John also does an awesome job with the High School kids. And when some of the follow-up questions that your 6-year-old asks Sunday afternoon challenge you to study the Bible more carefully, and the craft projects that your son brings home are actually great, then the Sunday School Team is doing a few things right (thank you Jennifer and all of of our teachers)!
  
  6) In summary, Calvary Chapel Salem is a church that my family loves to call home. If what I described sounds appealing to you, please drop in some Sunday at 8:00 am, 9:45 am, or 11:30 am. Services last about 90 minutes, but you won't be watching the clock--I promise!

  People are friendly and welcoming. Sermons are bible based. My husband and I love worshiping here.
